Transport Minister Calls For Road Safety And Respect This Festive Season
Transport Minister Chris Bonett took to his Facebook page to share a heartfelt message urging people to show greater respect for one another on Malta’s roads.
In his post, Bonett stressed that “respecting each other isn’t just a word we say,” explaining that it means simple yet life‑saving behaviours, like not using your phone while driving, avoiding alcohol before getting behind the wheel, and not rushing to make up for lost time when you’re running late.
Bonett highlighted the heavy human cost of reckless behaviour, saying the consequences are simply too great. “A parent cannot keep losing their children. And children cannot keep losing their parents,” he wrote, underlining the devastating impact that road accidents have on families and communities.
He urged everyone to do their small part, a concept he described as “respect for others”, and linked it to the ongoing road‑safety campaign “Aħsibha Darbtejn!” (Think Twice!).
Closing his message with a note of hope, Bonett added, “Yes, we can have roads without deaths,” emphasising that through collective responsibility and simple acts of respect, a safer Malta is possible.
His post quickly resonated with community members online, drawing attention to the broader discussion around road safety and responsible driving.
