‘Unacceptable’: Sliema Local Council Throws Shade At Neighbouring St. Julian’s Amidst St. Patrick’s Day ‘Chaos And Severe Congestion’

As traffic continues to build around the St Julian’s ahead of this evening’s St Patrick’s Day street festivities, neighbouring Sliema’s Local Council voiced out its “serious concerns” about it all… and how little it seemed to know about what’s happening today.
Pointing at the “chaos in Sliema”, the local council said the “significant traffic disruptions” which are currently plaguing the locality were all down to “uncoordinated diversions” in preparation for today’s celebrations, which are known to spill over into the streets of places like Spinola Bay.
“At no stage was the Sliema Local Council consulted by either the St. Julian’s Local Council or the St. Julian’s Police Station regarding the decision to divert large volumes of traffic through Sliema,” the press statement read. “This lack of communication is causing severe congestion and unnecessary inconvenience for our residents and businesses, especially given that many roads in Sliema are currently closed due to ongoing works by Infrastructure Malta and Enemalta.”
“Proper consultation and planning should have taken place to ensure that the impact on Sliema was minimized,” it continued. “The Sliema Local Council should have been informed and involved in discussions on traffic management well in advance. The current situation is unacceptable, and we urge the relevant authorities to take immediate corrective measures to ease the burden on our locality.”
“We call upon the St. Julian’s Local Council, the St. Julian’s Police Station, and all other relevant entities to engage in open dialogue with the Sliema Local Council to prevent similar disruptions in the future,” the local council finished. “Effective communication and cooperation between local councils and authorities are essential to ensuring that residents do not bear the brunt of inadequate planning.”
The Sliema Local Council ended its press statement by saying it “remains committed to advocating for the best interests of our community and expects that such oversights will not be repeated.”
