New details have emerged on Mia O’ Connell, the 12-year-old girl who was reported missing yesterday in Swieqi.

According to CCTV footage, Mia rushed out of her house at 4:15pm. The last person who saw her was her mother, and it seems like the young girl could’ve run away from home.

While it was previously reported that she was going to a birthday party, this has turned out to be incorrect. Mia instead had a rugby training session, and was last seen wearing a white jumper and black trousers, as seen in the last photo her family have of her; the CCTV screenshot below.

When asked why the young girl would have left home in such a hurry, her father replied saying that “we just moved to Malta and she wanted to stay in Spain”.

The family arrived in Malta in mid-July after having lived in Gibraltar, and Mia got settled in St. Catherine’s School since then.

Mia’s parents reported her missing at 6pm yesterday afternoon, and have been in constant contact with the police since. Friends of hers also reached out to Lovin Malta to report their friend missing.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of the 12-year-old girl can get in touch with the Police on 119 or 21224001. You can also send any information to Lovin Malta through Facebook messages and we will pass the information on to her parents.
