Valletta Burger King Manager Steals €7,000 From Workplace To Feed Gambling Addiction

A 32-year-old Romanian man admitted to stealing €7,000 from the Burger King outlet in Valletta on Wednesday, iNews reported. Ionut Drin Soimosan, who lives in Mellieħa, explained how he had stolen the large amount of cash as he was working as a shift manager at the restaurant.

On the night of the 15th of April Soimosan had gone to work at Burger King as normal, before stealing the €7,000. The court heard how this caused €7,000 in losses for the company Food Chain Limited, with a loss of profits for over 700 meals being served.

Probation officer Joanna Farrugia submitted a report to the court where it was explained that Soimosan has a gambling problem. It was also explained that Soimosan had returned the money to the company.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella condemned the man to three year probation and a said that if he broke the law in that time he would be fine €1,164. Inspector Priscilla Caruana Lee and Jeffrey Scicluna prosecuted.
