Wardens Have Their Hands Full Dishing Out Thousands Of New Warning Tickets
Malta’s wardens have had their hands full with the new ‘warning ticket’ system since it was introduced in March. As reported by One News, they have so far dished out a total of 5,400 warnings for minor traffic offences – an average of around 900 a month.
The most common offence was for people driving without a vehicle license or with an expired one – 3,677 warning tickets were handed out for this offence.
Elsewhere, 1,197 people received warnings for parking illegally, 411 were warned for driving non-roadworthy vehicles, 56 were warned for driving with broken car lights, 48 for driving with broken mirrors, and 16 for driving with broken silencers.
According to the new system, wardens are allowed to give out warning tickets instead of fines for minor traffic offences. The warning ticket is a one-time warning, and the warden will hand out a regular ticket if the driver is caught re-offending.
