Watch: ‘Don’t Put Your Trust In Princes’ – Malta’s New President Shares Late Father’s Words Of Wisdom
Newly appointed President Myriam Spiteri Debono shared what her late father’s golden words of advice to her were when she first started out in politics.
In her first-ever interview with TVM News as President, Spiteri Debono was asked by interviewer Ruth Amaira what her father Pawlu Zammit would tell hherm if he was present to witness her great achievement.
“When I told my father that I was active in the Labour Party and then eventually I contested for my first general election, he told me one thing,” Debono responded. “He told me, ‘my daughter, I’ve only got one thing to tell you: Don’t put your trust in princes”.
By telling her that, her father advised her against relying too heavily on powerful or influential individuals, particularly those in positions of authority or leadership. He also told her to remember another phrase along with that sage advice, which is: “There but for the grace of God go I,” the President revealed.
“These words have been a source of guidance throughout my whole life,” the President told the interviewer.
