Watch: ‘He Went Out And Didn’t Return’ – Rescue Operation Launched After Man On Dinghy Goes Missing Near Għadira
What was described as a “massive rescue operation” was launched near Mellieħa’s Għadira Bay this morning after a man went missing at sea.
“He went out an hour ago with his dinghy and did not return,” an eyewitness who happened to be at Għajn Żejtuna beach told Lovin Malta. Footage sent to Lovin Malta shows at least two boats mobilised to find the man, while other reports indicated that even an AFM helicopter had been sent to the area – and shortly after to Għadira – to help locate the missing man.
The Malta Police Force confirmed with Lovin Malta that a report on the case came in at around 11.30am, with officials from both the Red Cross and the Civil Protection Department being sent to the areas.
It is believed that the man went out on a small dinghy to potentially board a larger boat which was anchored in Għadira, but after he went missing, his dinghy was found empty and drifting.

Around half an hour later, the same eyewitness told Lovin Malta that the man seemed to have been located, with some officials even being seen giving him CPR.
With not much more information being available at this point in time, police told this newsroom that it is believed the man suffered some sort of medical complication which triggered the operation.
This is a developing story.
