Watch: ‘I Bet You They Will Accuse Us Of Buying Votes,’ – Abela Announces New Cheques This Saturday

Prime Minister Robert Abela made a bet with his supporters during a Labour campaign activity that the Nationalist Party would report him for “buying votes” when people “receive their second cheque on Saturday”.

Yesterday, while addressing Labour supporters during a PL activity in Santa Lucija, Abela said “I bet you that after this Saturday, when you receive your additional Cost of Living Allowance (COLA), they will go and report us for buying votes, I bet you this,” referring to the PN.

Before saying this, Abela had stated that the PN consistently opposes the government’s efforts to provide financial assistance to citizens, remarking that the Opposition has accused them of attempting to sway votes by distributing tax refund cheques to all employees.

“The Nationalist Party is not only against the rise in prices of fuel and electricity prices, you could perhaps understand where they are coming from, possibly because this is their wrong economic opinion.”

“But no, the PN aren’t only against this financial aid, because even when we send financial aid directly to your pockets, they come out strongly against this,” Abela continued, referring to the tax refund cheques that were recently received by Maltese workers.

“If they believe they can hinder us from delivering the aid we pledged, they’re mistaken. As long as you continue to trust in us, the assistance will keep coming your way. If you prefer cheques over bills, you know which party to support,” he continued.

Abela went on to say that the Opposition criticises the government for being “your shield”. “It’s ironic that the Nationalist Party is quick to advocate for reducing assistance to the people based on foreign advice,” Abela stated.
