Maltese speedster, Luke Micallef just made national history during his latest long distance run in Bologna.

With an impressive time of just 29 minutes and 26 seconds, Luke demolished the Bologna Interporto 10 kilometre race, beating the previous national record by just 13 seconds – previously held by Jordan Gusman – and a 55-second Personal Best for the runner.

“A massive 55-second PB and GSSE, European Road Running Championships targets achieved!” Micallef wrote on Facebook to celebrate his achievement, “So thankful to Ivan Russu for invaluable coaching and Rebecca Falzon for the incredible belief and support.”

It feels like it was only yesterday when Luke made another historic achievement by demolishing the 3,000 steeplechase, setting a new national record with a 9:09.00 time back in 2023, going down as one of Europe’s Top 30 Young Athletes soon after.

Although the timing of his feat in Bologna is yet to be ratified by Athletics Malta, we have no doubt that this young athlete will be going down in history yet again.

Well done Luke, you keep making Malta proud!
