Substantial damage and injuries were narrowly avoided this morning as a large drill slipped off the truck that was carrying it in Bulebel and landed right between two cars.

A person who was on the scene and sent in clips of the aftermath to Lovin Malta said how the huge mechanism “just slipped, tipped over and fell in the middle of the road” at an intersection just off Triq tal-Barrani.

“The people in those cars were actually very lucky,” the person told Lovin Malta. “The drill could’ve easily crashed into their windscreen instead, and I don’t want to imagine what damage it would’ve caused then!”

This incident comes just 12 hours after Lovin Malta launched #SafetyWatch, an initiative to try and curb health and safety issues within local construction companies in an effort to avoid tragedies such as the one that claimed the life of a 26-year-old Libyan on Monday.
