In another impressive feat of environmental preservation, Maltese NGO Coast is Clear has dived into the waters of the Lazzaretto of Manoel Island, clearing over three tonnes of waste.

The coastal complex served as a quarantine facility and hospital before its abandonment in the 70s. Since then, massive amounts of waste accumulating both on land as well as in the waters below.

The organisation took it upon itself to make a dent in this ever-increasing amount of garbage as part of its ongoing efforts to clean up our island and amplify its natural beauty.

Just last Saturday, 1st February, volunteers from the foundation cleared  3,225 kgs worth of trash from the area, over 2,200 kgs of which were metals, 890 kgs were tyres and 65 kgs worth of glass.

The operation was made possible with the support of Calypso Sub Aqua Club, The Alfred Mizzi Foundation, St John Ambulance & Rescue Malta and MIDI.

Well done to all of those who contributed!
