WATCH: New Video Emerges Of Punch-Up At Malta University Water Fight
Video: Fights break out at 10:00 / Insite Malta
The annual water fight between ELSA (the law student organisation) and SACES (the architecture equivalent) had to be stopped for a while after brawls broke out between the students.
Contacting Lovin Malta after the article was posted, both SACES and ELSA have denied claims of any fighting going on.
Photos and videos sent in to Lovin Malta show other participants attempting to calm their peers in the hopes of diffusing the situation. Eventually the bowsers were turned back on and the water fight continued as planned, with SACES nabbing the win.
SACES And ELSA Presidents Comments On The Issue
Speaking to Lovin Malta, Daniel Vella (president of ELSA) said this year’s water fight was no different from the rest. It is ELSA’s belief that observers may have misinterpreted the enthusiasm of participants.
In a post on Facebook SACES reiterated that both organisations are on good terms, and ” acts of aggression were actually all taunts in good spirit.” They went on to explain they “strongly disagree with any claims that there were any violent brawls in the midst of the event”.

In previous years the event had come under fire for wasting water, a scarce natural resource on the Maltese islands.
Despite the violent outburst, this event is still considered a Freshers’ Week highlight for many. As per the annual tradition, during the water fight ELSA wear white and SACES wear black.
