Watch: Sliema Car Crash Turns Ugly As RIU Officers Attempt To Break Up Battling Drivers
A car crash near Tigne’ Point in Sliema quickly turned violent after two drivers involved in the crash began throwing punches at each other.
At around 9:40am Saturday morning, a white Ford Transit Connect van driven by an 84-year-old man from Msida crashed into two parked motorcycles before hitting a large construction truck, causing it to flip over and hit another parked car, before coming to a rest on its side, said a police spokesperson. Police as well as a medical team were called in when it was found that two people were trapped inside the overturned Ford Transit.
However, after the trapped people had gotten out of the van, at least one of the men involved in the crash began shouting offences to the other, and eventually at least two men began fighting in the middle of the street.
It is unclear who started the fight, though one man does act particularly aggressive.
When police officers and members of the Rapid Intervention Unit attempt to calm him down and hold him back, he escapes from their grip and attacks the other driver wearing an orange shirt, throwing him to the floor.
He later throws an object at the Ford Transit driver.
After the authorities calm him down and begin walking away, it seems like one of the men in orange may have said something to him, which throws him back into a rage.
The authorities eventually calmed down the men involved in the commotion, and the two people who were trapped inside of the Ford were taken to Mater Dei for treatment.
No-one was seriously injured and no arrests were made said a police spokesperson.
