Watch: ‘The Best Tourist Results In History’ – Malta Hits Record €2.7 Billion Milestone
Three million tourists visited Malta in 2023 and left “a record expenditure” of €2.7 billion in the local economy, according to Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo.
“Today is an important day for our country as we have confirmed that in 2023, Malta received the best tourist results in history,” Bartolo said in a social media post, adding that “the next step will be to attract a higher quality tourist to the Maltese Islands.”
It is worth noting that in 2023, Malta’s loss-making national airline Air Malta will shut down in March 2024 and be replaced by KM Malta airlines.
Back in April 2023, it was widely reported that despite efforts to keep Air Malta afloat, the European Commission forbade the government from pumping almost €300 million into the airline.
