Two people in Sannat, a man and a woman, were hospitalised due to injuries suffered after being hit by fireworks originating from the neighbouring town of Munxar, Gozo.

The woman suffered facial injuries, while the man suffered injuries to his chest and stomach, with both of them having to be hospitalised at the Gozo General Hospital.

The fireworks were said to have been set off from Munxar, but ended up landing in an area where an activity was being held in Sannat.

A video shared online shows the exact moment that the fireworks landed among the people, who were mostly seated around tables outside.

Reacting to the ordeal, Sannat Mayor Philip Vella stressed the importance of safeguarding residents’ safety, saying that they will always remain committed to keeping everyone safe.

“Our main interest is making sure that we safeguard the interests of the Sannat residents,” Vella said.

“We will remain committed to being the voice for the residents of Sannat to make sure that they feel safe in their own homes,” he promised.

He also made reference to certain inaccurate reports that were being made that the council is attempting to ruin the neighbouring town’s feast, saying that this is not true. However, he stressed that police need to make sure that the permit’s conditions are observed according to the law.

Lovin Malta reached out to Malta’s police for a comment on the ordeal, however, no reply was given at the time of publishing.
