Watch: ‘Watering Gravel?’ Momentum Slams Authorities Over Ta’ Qali Park Works

Political party Momentum has called for an explanation after footage emerged showing a water bowser watering the gravel-covered area at Ta’ Qali, describing it as a “desperate” act that raises fresh questions about the project’s management.
The video, sent to the Lovin Malta newsroom, shows the gravel being watered early in the morning, following Momentum’s claims that a similar incident had taken place “under cover of darkness.”
Momentum said the situation reflects a lack of transparency and called on the authorities to explain both the use of gravel and the watering practices at what was once a green, family-friendly park.
“This incident continues to raise serious questions about the transparency and accountability of the authorities managing the park,” the party said in a statement on Monday.
Just a day earlier, Momentum criticised the authorities for refusing to disclose details about why the picnic area was covered in gravel instead of grass or soil.
Momentum leader Arnold Cassola described the watering as “a troubling attempt to mask the environmental damage inflicted on Ta’ Qali.”
“Instead of engaging with the public and explaining the logic behind this transformation, the authorities are resorting to covert actions that only deepen public mistrust,” Cassola said.
The party said that Ta’ Qali, once a vibrant public space for families, children, and pet owners, now risks becoming a sterile and unsafe environment.
So far, no public statement has been issued by the authorities responsible for the park to clarify why the gravel is being watered or how the new surface was chosen.
What do you think, is it justified maintenance or a cover-up?
