10-year-old warrior Henry Mamo can finally eat happily after spending almost a month feeling sick every time he tried.

He’s recovering little by little, day by day as his mother, Lorinda, documents the joyful, difficult, and sad moments of their journey.

“The moment he’s been waiting for!”

“And when I asked what he wanted…. This is what he requested.  I tried my best and he said it’s better than he imagined,” the Instagram caption below a video of Henry beaming as he takes a bite of a delicious-looking avocado toast reads.

Upon being told, Henry rushed to call and share the news with his father, and as he was telling him, “he [Henry] burst out crying because he just couldn’t believe it.”

“I panicked and thought something happened…. He said no, nothing happened I’m just happy I can eat,” Lorinda narrated.

At the start of the month, the inspiring mother-son duo went on Instagram Live to interact with their followers and let them get to know the bright, witty, and brave boy. During the live, Henry sang his own rendition of the popular song Sunflower where he opened up about the frustrations of not being able to eat or drink during some points of his treatments.

He also shared a list of all the foods he wanted to eat when he’d once again be able to.

Now, the young boy is enjoying his mother’s tasty avocado toast.

This moment comes a week after Henry had surgery.

Unfortunately, about a week ago, Henry’s condition was “deteriorating” and he had to go into surgery. Lorinda wrote a sobering post about the “nightmare” of seeing and prepping your child for surgery.

“It was, has always been, and will continue to be one of my nightmares – that urgency, that danger, that sense of sheer panic and unknown.”

“But the worst of it is that he is older and understands so much more and as the tears stream down my face as I tell him he needs surgery, he is the one telling me that he will be ok. And he teaches me to be strong, again.”

However, in another post, Lorinda detailed the seemingly small but extremely essential milestones in Henry’s post-op progress, urging her followers to “never underestimate the resilience and strength of a child”.

Besides being a devoted mother, Lorinda runs Club Creative and HappyPlay Co where Henry acts as HEO – Happiness Executive Officer.

She also forms part of the Mater Dei Hospital Children’s Foundation which aims to empower and advance excellence in child healthcare and health research, ensuring the well-being of young patients and their families.

Lovin Malta is so happy to see that Henry can finally enjoy his food and we hope that the milestone list keeps piling on
