Watch: Young Maltese Man Recalls Witnessing Shooting While On Exchange Program In America
A young Maltese man has recalled the harrowing moment he witnessed a shooting right by a school while he was doing an exchange program in America.
Speaking on Growing Pains, the latest podcast by student-based platform FreeHour, Gabriel Bonavia opened up about his experiences during a student exchange program, where himself and others experienced the horrors of a shooting in the dead of night.
Even though the shooting wasn’t associated with the school itself, it happened right outside, prompting students to take shelter and proper precaution.
“We just went out, it was a normal day, and then at a point we all look at our phones and we receive a message from the school, saying that there was a shooter and telling us to stay inside, don’t go out, etc,” he explained.
“And we just were locked in there, they had closed the doors, and I think we were locked inside for around three hours, til around 4am.”
“Tt was crazy, and we were also a bit drunk. You don’t really think about the whole situation and how scary it is at that point,” he recalled.
“Then I remember they just opened and we ran to the dorms, and even though the shooting wasn’t really associated to the school, it was right outside, right next to the school, the campus was very open and anyone could just enter and go out.”
“The next day it was just shocking, no one could believe it. So yeah that was definitely the craziest,” he said.
