Tributes are flooding in for 17-year-old Kacey Sciberras, who tragically lost her life yesterday in an accident along the Central Link road.

Kacey was certified dead at the scene of the accident which occurred at around 3am on Sunday morning along Triq Tumas Schembri, Attard. Many have since reacted to her untimely death.

“Our hearts are heavy as we hear of the passing of ITS student and Student Council member, Kacey Sciberras,” the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) said on social media.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Kacey’s family and friends during this difficult time. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.”

“May we honour Kacey’s memory by cherishing the impact she made on those around her and embracing unity and compassion. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Kacey. You will be deeply missed.”

Kacey was also a member of the St Paul’s Bay Band Club and the feast committee. Both Kacey and Luke Debattista, who is currently hospitalised, were active members of the Parish Church.

“This morning we woke up to a big shock,” the Kumitat Festa Marija Sultana tal-Martri wrote on Facebook yesterday. “We lost one of our children.”

An active member of the committee’s youth, Kacey followed in her family’s footsteps, with her father and brother also members of the committee.

Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo also issued a heartfelt tribute, recalling the last time he spoke to Kacey.

“This morning we all woke up shocked to hear the news of Kacey’s passing, a student and member of the ITS and an active teenager,” Bartolo wrote.

“Just a while back during a visit at the ITS I spoke with Kacey about the career she’d like to embark on in tourism, and on the importance of active teens in the community.”

“Shocked and saddened by the news we all woke up to this morning. Kacey a young lady very active in her community, was tragically taken too soon,” PN MP Ivan Castillo wrote.

“Sincere condolences to her parents and brother. No words can express your sorrow or give you comfort during this very difficult time.”

A young Attard resident also issued a tribute to Kacey, pleading to authorities to take all necessary actions so that our roads become safe for all.

“Her life was about to start… She should have woken up today talking about the night before. She should have woken up today preparing for another week, ahead,” Nicole Portelli wrote.

“Why does this always happen? Why must a fatality happen for someone to stand up and do something? How can you look into Kacey’s family’s eyes after what they have lost?”

“As a young Attard resident, I am heartbroken about another road fatality on our roads. So many nightmares have been happening over the years in our locality.”

“I plead to all authorities to take all necessary actions, so our roads become safe for all. I also plead to all drivers to remain cautious whilst driving. May you rest in peace Kacey Sciberras.”
