Today, 26th August, would have been Daphne Caruana Galizia’s 59th birthday.

On the occasion, the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation, an organisation that came to life after her death, has said that it exists primarily for her justice.

“Born on this day 26th August 1964. Assassinated 16th October 2017. The reason the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation exists,” the foundation said in a statement.

“Our primary mission is full justice for Daphne – for her murder, for her stories. We will see justice done, whatever it takes. We’re not giving up, and we will never give in,” it said.

Last night, on the eve of what would have been her birthday, the foundation also provided the public with an update on their FOI request, one which requested a copy of the report of the Committee of Experts presented to the Prime Minister on 24th July.

“Tomorrow would have been her birthday. Maybe the OPM will decide to send us a present – the report that should have been published unprompted, the one that is supposed to tell the Government how to put right some of the wrongs that enabled Daphne’s assassination,” it questioned.

“Yesterday, the Prime Minister’s office refused our FOI request because ‘the document requested is publicly available or will be published within three months.’ This exclusion doesn’t apply to our FOI request.”

“According to the OPM’s own terms of reference, the Prime Minister should have published the report 10 days after receiving it, but didn’t.”

“There are no grounds for refusing our FOI request, so we’ve filed a formal complaint. According to law, the OPM must reply within 10 days. We’ll let you know when we hear from them,” it said.

Meanwhile, on 16th October, it will be six years since the assassination – and the court case is not even close to being concluded.
