With The Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festivities Just Days Away, St. Julian’s Residents Are Getting A Literal Helpline

For thousands of Maltese people, St. Patrick’s Day means one thing; a huge street party that starts at Spinola Bay and extends all the way up to the southern roads of Paceville. But for St. Julian’s residents, this usually ends up being 12 nightmarish hours of crowds, noise and drunken revelry. This year, the Local Council have devised a way to help its locals vent out.

As reported by The Times of Malta, residents of St. Julian’s will be able to call an actual helpline between 1pm and 1am this Saturday. Through this helpline (21 373 111), the residents will not only be able to vent out their frustration, but also report any problems which might arise over the day-long festivities.

The St. Julian’s Local Council issued a statement on the matter earlier today, saying that even though they weren’t responsible for the grand annual celebrations, they would still be opening this helpline to assist residents in any way possible.

Last year had in fact seen Deputy Mayor Albert Buttigieg heavily condemning the festivities and the way they were organised. “All this would have been avoided without any expense if the proposal of the Local Council, as approved by all councillors, was not blocked,” Buttigieg had said. “Shame on your greed!”

As far as this year’s celebrations go, however, the council said that councillors had actually met with party organisers, business owners, police officers and Transport Malta officials in the last couple of weeks to better coordinate events on the day.

Times of Malta reported how some key roads, including parts of St. George’s Road, Ġorġ Borg Olivier Street and Michel’Angelo Borg Street will be closed for traffic.

Detours are set to be in place for access to the inner parts of Paceville, and of course, Spinola Bay is expected to be a no-traffic zone.
