‘Women’s Health And Freedoms Are Not Bollocks’: Cyrus Engerer Reacts To PN MEP Candidate’s Comment On Abortion
PL MEP Cyrus Engerer has strongly criticised PN MEP candidate Lee Bugeja Bartolo’s comment, dismissing the European Parliament’s (EP) resolution vote looking to add abortion as a fundamental right as “bollocks”.
A resolution adopted by the European Parliament yesterday, with 336 votes in favour, 163 against, and 39 abstentions, calls for the incorporation of the right to safe and legal abortion into the Charter of Fundamental Rights.
In a comment made to Lovin Malta, PN MEP candidate Lee Bugeja Bartolo came out strongly against the EP vote, saying “I think it’s bollocks”.
Bugeja Bartolo’s comment prompted a lot of criticism from pro-abortion activists, including PL MEP Cyrus Engerer, who wrote: “Women’s health and freedoms are not bollocks.”
“This is your body, your life, your choice,” Engerer wrote, urging others to “keep on fighting back”.
Although Engerer was not present in Brussels to cast his vote due to work-related reasons, he co-signed the vote and expressed his pride in being selected to negotiate the resolution.
Meanwhile, PN MEP David Casa and PL MEPs Cutajar and Alex Agius Saliba voted against the resolution. EP President Roberta Metsola doesn’t vote on any subject. Alfred Sant from the PL camp was the only MEP to abstain.
Do you think abortion should be a fundamental right?
