An unlicensed 17-year-old, Liam Debono, caused chaos in the streets of Luqa early this morning after he drove onto the pavement, hit a wall, and struck a police officer in the vicinity of the LIDL supermarket area. The grey Mercedes Benz driver hit other cars in his rampage, and eventually kept on driving down Qormi Road after hitting the police officer and cars.

It was also reported that the driver was driving with fake license plates and that the car belonged to his sister. The police officer that was struck was named as Simon Schembri, and is currently in a critical condition after being dragged along by the car for metres.

Police caught up to the driver after chasing him and spoke to the man, but they could not confirm whether charges would be drawn up against the driver. The reasons for his aggressive acts are not yet known.

The car chase that ensued has caused massive traffic in the Luqa area, with congestion reaching all the way to Marsa and other localities.
