A 21-year-old woman from the Faroe Islands who visited Paceville for the first time shortly after landing in Malta could end up losing sight in one eye after she was hit by a lit cigarette.

The incident happened late on Sunday and was reported by Net News after the woman ended up at Mater Dei Hospital recovering from the accident.

Smoking is illegal at nightclubs but still a common occurrence due to lack of enforcement at some establishments.

The man who was waving the cigarette around reportedly left the scene seconds after the young woman was heard shouting in pain clutching her eye, as her friends tried to help her and call an ambulance.

The young woman filed a formal report to the police, who have requested access to the club’s CCTV footage, to help conduct an investigation.
