Lydia Abela In New York: ‘Sustainable Development Must Be At Centre Of Fashion Industry’
During a recent fashion event in New York, America, Lydia Abela focused on the social and environmental aspects to the industry in her public comments.
“I believe that sustainable development must be at the centre of the fashion industry,” Abela said during Fashion For Development, an event organised by founder Evie Evangelou.
She is in New York along with husband Prime Minister Robert Abela who is attending the 77th United Nations’ General Assembly.
“The social and environmental side of things are the most crucial,” she continued. “We need to continue working within a global context to better working conditions. When it comes to the environment, we need to continue working to reduce the carbon footprint and attaining global aims that have been established.”
The event was celebrating work being done in developing nations, based on four key principles: education, determination, bettering of conditions and the strengthening of sustainable development.
The event was held at Park Avenue.
During the evening, Abela spoke to a number of individuals, international organisations and foundations working to find solutions to global problems, among them Paraguayan President Silvana Lopez Moreira Bo.
