Macedonian Man Arrested In St Paul’s Bay For ATM Bombings In Austria
Maltese police have arrested a 29 year old Macedonian man who was wanted by Austrian authorities in connection with a series of ATM bombings across Austria.
The arrest came as part of a major international operation carried out early on Tuesday morning across several European countries. In Malta, multiple police units coordinated to surround a residence in St Paul’s Bay after investigations confirmed that the suspect was living on the island.
A total of 48 suspects had been identified by Austrian investigators over the past year, with the Vienna Prosecutor’s Office issuing European Arrest Warrants against them at the end of October. So far, 29 people have been arrested across Europe, including the man found in Malta.
The suspect was taken to court yesterday to begin extradition proceedings to Austria. He consented to face criminal charges there and is being held in custody.
Police investigations remain ongoing.
