Madonna Tal-Aħrax Statue Under Threat By Crumbling Cliff With Experts Brought In To Save It
The cliff under the iconic Madonna Tal-Aħrax statue is crumbling and experts have been brought in to see what they can to save the well-known effigy.
Following a parliamentary question by MP Ivan Castillo, Minister Owen Bonnici revealed that the Restoration Directorate has sent experts to see what the best course of action will be.
A few months ago, Castillo published images on social media showing an enormous crack right near the statue, raising concerns that the cliff could crumble, taking the statue along with it.
The statue has been there since 1870 and is a well-loved statue in the area.
“It has given so many fishermen from Mellieħa and St Pauls Bay hope along with so many others!” he wrote.
“We sill have a chance of saving it! Let’s. not let another piece of us be lost forever because we did nothing.”
It remains to be seen what experts will do to save the iconic statue. However, it appears that urgent action is needed.
Should authorities immediately intervene?
