Mahmoud Adly has been identified as the man who was murdered in Marsa on 24th July.

Adly’s name was revealed in a Broadcasting Authority press release concerning a fine being dished out to state broadcaster PBS for publishing insensitive, graphic footage of Adly while he lay dying on the floor following a stabbing.

Adly’s name has been unknown to the public and the press following the incident, a common occurrence for third-country nationals in Malta who have no family or few friends in the country.

Adly, an Egyptian man, died after being allegedly stabbed by Al Mahy Ezzo Saed, a Sudanese national.

“My heart, my heart,” Adly reportedly said moments after the incident.

Saeed was first apprehended by members of the public who witnessed the attack. He has since been charged.

In a video, Saeed can be seen being roughed around, physically detained and even chased down the Marsa streets, with one person even being heard repeatedly shouting, “You are not going anywhere”.

Saeed was eventually surrounded and blocked from escaping from a dead end near Triq Is-Sajjieda. By the end of the video, a number of Rapid Intervention Unit officers can be seen arresting the murder suspect.

Court sittings have revealed that the stabbing happened after an argument between the two men. However, no details were given on what the argument was about.

Saeed has pleaded not guilty. However, the court has ruled that there is enough evidence to issue a bill of indictment against Saeed.
