‘Major’ Cracks In Nearby Buildings Worry Paceville Collapse Neighbours

Major cracks in a residential building close to Tania Flats – the structure that collapsed in Paceville on Wednesday night – have begun to worry neighbours about another potential incident.
Footage sent to Lovin Malta shows cracks running through the back walls of a block of apartments positioned adjacent to Tania Flats. The footage was taken from the apartment of another neighbour who lives back-to-back to the street were the collapse happened.
“It obviously looks like it’s in danger right now. The authorities should come and check this because families and tourists currently reside there,” a neighbour told the newsroom.
Responding to whether people are being evacuated from the building, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) said that it is currently assessing the situation in the surrounding area and has taken the necessary actions accordingly. They did not specify what these actions are.
In addition, a dedicated helpline has been established to assist affected parties.
The collapse happened last night mere hours after 32 people were evacuated because architect Glenn Zammit noticed visual defects on the structure. Zammit is the lead architect of a nearby project led by Excel Trading Limited which is owned by Joseph Portelli, Mark Agius and Daniel Refalo. Agius is listed as the project developer.
