Malta Airport Hits 700,000 Passengers In August, The Highest Since 2019

The 700,000 passenger mark was exceeded for the first time since 2019 with 712,122 passengers travelling through the Malta International Airport in August.
This marks a recovery of 86.5% of pre-pandemic traffic and the result was registered on the back of a recovery of 84.2% in seat capacity.
Meanwhile, the seat load factor (SLF), which measures the occupancy of the seats on flights, reached an all-time high of 90.4%.
The SLF translated to an increase of 2.4% when compared to August 2019.
The peak in traffic was observed on 21st August and it was followed by a shift brought about by some drops in SLF’s as the holiday rush calmed down.
The top drivers of traffic for the month were Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain, cumulatively accounting for 67% of August’s passenger numbers.
Although the United Kingdom and Germany featured among the top five markets, the number of passengers travelling to and from these countries remained significantly below 2019 levels.
France was the second fastest-growing market with an increase of 34% in passenger movements. Malta International Airport is currently connected to nine French airports through flights operated by five airlines.
