New waste collection days for mixed, organic and recyclable rubbish will come into effect as of 2nd January 2023.

Unlike the current system, where waste collection days differ by locality, the new system will be standardised across the entire country, with the authorities hoping it will make recycling more practical.

This is what the new system will look like:

Monday: Organic waste (white bags)

Tuesday: Mixed waste (black bags)

Wednesday: Organic waste (white bags)

Thursday: Recyclable waste (grey or green bags)

Friday: Organic waste (white bags)

Saturday: Mixed waste (black bags)

Glass waste will be collected twice a month – on the first and third Friday of the month.

Further details on waste collection hours will be issued by local councils and regions to households and an informational campaign will also take place.

Further details can be found by calling 2090 8600 or by visiting www.wastecollection.mt.
