Malta Census: Are You A Believer? 4% Of Population Doesn’t Follow Any Religion

Around 23,243 people in Malta say they don’t have any religion, new figures have revealed.
That’s roughly 4% of the population of the islands.
This was revealed by the 2021 Malta Census for Housing and Population, which asked, for the first time since it’s been conducted, about people’s religious affiliation.
Christianity still dominates the country, with 82.6% identifying as Roman Catholic, totaling around 373,304 residents aged 15 and over.
Followers of Islam totaled 17,454 inhabitants, while 16,457 persons identified themselves with the Orthodox religion.
This means that more people don’t follow an organised religion than the two non-Catholic religions in Malta.
From table 5.1, there are more people that follow a non-Catholic religion than there are people with no religious affiliation”.
