Malta Census: For The First Time In History, There Are More Men Than Women

For the first time ever, there are officially more men than women in the Maltese population.
According to the 2021 Census of Housing and Population, men just overtook women on the islands, with 52% (270,021) men and 249,541 women in Malta.
That results in a sex ratio of 924 women per 1,000 men.
The Census did not provide any information about the number of non-binary people in the population.
Malta remains the most densely populated country in the EU with 1,649 residents per square kilometre.
It comes as little surprise when the population, which currently stands at 519,562, grew more than 100,000 over the past 10 years and continues to grow at a rapid rate.
