Malta Chamber Unopposed To Mass Events If Organised In A ‘Responsible Fashion’
In light of the recent COVID-19 spike, the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry has come out saying that mass events ought to be allowed so long as they are held in a responsible fashion.
The Malta Chamber is not opposed to the organisation of such events, but instead holds that such events should be organised with all necessary safeguards and mitigation measures in place.
However, the Chamber maintains that any event that falls short of such measures should be called off.
The Chamber writes that events of any kind should only take place if the organisers, together with the relevant health authorities, can guarantee the setting up of control procedures and safeguards so as to alleviate risk of further virus spread.
The Chamber is asking for “closer communication and collaboration” between health authorities and event organisers in order to ensure that all risks are mitigated.
They are also keeping active contact with relevant stakeholders in the events and entertainment industry
The Chamber expressed that while economic recovery is a principal concern for the public, the cost of losing what front-liners have worked for out-weighs the increase in short-term profits.
These comments follow a sudden COVID-19 spike resulting from a widely-attended Hotel Takeover event. This has given rise to calls from medical organisations to ban mass gatherings until virus spread is mitigated.
