Malta Customs has intercepted around €2.75 million euro worth of illicit cash in the last five years.
Between 2015 and 2020, 128 cases of illegal cash movements were interrupted. The figure of cases has been steadily rising each year.
In 2015, just one case was reported by Customs, totalling €41,400. In 2019, that figure exploded to 66 interceptions of illicit cash on Malta’s borders, totalling around €1,547,116.
This year, Malta Customs found 39 instances of illegal cash movement, the total figure at €643,772.
