Malta Has The Highest Rate Of Pollution Exposure In The Entire EU

More than a quarter of all Maltese people reported that they had been exposed to pollution, grime and other environmental problems, Eurostat figures have found.
With 26.5% of people reporting such exposure, Malta has the highest share of any other country within the EU, and well above the EU average of 14%.
The next highest shares were recorded in Germany (24.5%) and Greece (20.3%).
At the other end of the spectrum, the three Nordic Member States (Denmark, Finland and Sweden), together with Croatia, recorded some of the lowest exposure rates (between 6 and 8% of their populations).
Issues surrounding pollution and air quality are growing in Malta, with poor air quality accounting for roughly five deaths every single week.
Meanwhile, citizens and activists have taken it into their own hands to make the environment a priority, with two well attended protests over the last year, and a third taking place this Saturday.
