‘Malta Is Full Up’ – PN MP Ivan Castillo Sounds Alarm On Overpopulation

Malta is “full up” and overpopulation has become the nation’s number one problem, PN MP Ivan Castillo has warned.
“Packed classrooms and packed roads, hours lost in traffic and hospital corridors, unaffordable properties, and the rising cost of living all have a single root, which is overpopulation,’ Castillo said.
“Malta is full up. With an ever-increasing population, our services are constantly regressing. Everyone knows that is an unsustainable situation but few have the courage to say so.”
“However, I will say so clearly. Overpopulation is our country’s main problem, and unless we seriously address it, every other solution we take would be like plastering an open wound.”
Castillo said that Malta should leverage AI to allow companies to do more with less, and focus on the up-skilling of Maltese workers.
He also called for an extensive digitalisation of public services, such as medical appointments and intelligent traffic systems, and for a serious carrying capacity study to take place.
“If we ease pressure on the population, many problems we face – such as hospitals, house prices, traffic and quality of life will improve. If we continue deviating and sweeping everything under the carpet, no economic plan will solve our problems,” he argued.
“This isn’t an easy discussion and it won’t earn you likes or cheers. But true leadership means that you should face the truth, no matter how tough it is.. and the truth is that Malta is full up.”
“Let’s show we have a spine, so as not to say something else, to do more with less and craft a strong future for our nation.”
“Who is ready to start this tough and adult discussion that can lead to real solutions? Let’s stop beating around the bush and start talking about the issues that are truly bothering people.”
