‘Malta Needs Fresh Voices’: Young Entrepreneur To Contest Election With Libertarian Capitalist Vision

Luca Arrigo, a 28-year-old tech entrepreneur and digital nomad, has announced he intends to contest the upcoming Maltese general election as an independent candidate and has unveiled a manifesto with some ambitious proposals.

I should not be doing this as I’m busy building my life as a digital nomad and working on myself,” Arrigo said. “I just can’t resist not contributing to the political discussion in my country. So here we go.”

Arrigo’s manifesto includes ambitious proposals such as setting up Maltese-owned power stations in North Africa to ensure energy security and affordability, building a Malta metro, constructing artificial islands on Hurd’s Bank, taxing foreign-sourced income at a lower rate, incentivising Maltese entrepreneurs to purchase Sicilian farmland to protect national food security, and merging duplicate ministries.

He said he has been inspired by the success of former US independent candidate RFK JR and Cypriot Youtuber and MEP Fidias Panayiotou, and that his policies have been influenced by the likes of Javier Milei, Elon Musk, and Marc Andreessen.

“Malta needs fresh political voices that reflect 2025’s realities,” he said. “While new parties have emerged, none embody the bold thinking required to position Malta as a Mediterranean tech hub and Tier 3 economy by 2050.”

Arrigo said he decided to contest as an independent rather than join a political party because he doesn’t want his opinion to be censored or controlled by the politics of a group of people. He said he advocates a libertarian capitalist vision for Malta, which is currently not represented in the country.

However, he said that he would be willing to work with any party that is elected to government.

“We may be entering an era where political coalitions become the norm. I would rather stand on my own for what I believe in,” he said. “Albeit, if any politician gave me a call, I will answer the phone and discuss with an open mind.”
