Malta Nurses Union Comes Out In Favour Of Euthanasia

While the doctors’ union has opposed a proposal to legalise voluntary euthanasia, the nursing union has other ideas.
The MUMN said that the personal decisions of patients who are suffering from a terminal illness and are facing prolonged and unbearable agony deserve to be respected.
“We see patients receiving morphine, only to request another dose within 20 minutes because the pain has not subsided,” the MUMN said, as it urged people not to add judgement on the wishes of dying patients.
“Let us respect the patient’s right to choose at the end of their life.”
However, it argued that euthanasia should never come at the expense of quality palliative care and said it is in active talks with the Health Ministry to improve such services.
