Malta On The Radar For World’s Youngest Plane Captain

Article Featured Image

What were you planning to do when you turned 26? Well if it involved being the world’s youngest plane captain easyJet’s Kate McWilliams just went and stole your thunder.

Many might be slightly uneasy about having such a young captain taking them for a journey at 30,000ft in the air, but Kate’s been at it since she was 13, so she’s basically been raised in the cockpit.

Last week saw Malta as one of the first destinations for the newly decorated Captain McWilliams. She flew the easyJet flight out of Gatwick to our little island, and this journey may become her regular route.

But if her age wasn’t enough to impress you (and it really should), the pilot assisting on the journey is the UK’s youngest Luke Elsworth… who’s just 19 years old. Youngest captain meets youngest pilot – all while we’re just chillin’, binge watching stranger things in bed.

“When I tell them I’m 26, most people are pleasantly surprised and impressed with my achievement at such a young age”

Flying solo for the first time at 16, the captain from Carlisle joined the CTC Aviation programme at the age of 19. But more impressively she was doing loop-the-loops while most of us were stressing about our O-levels.
