Malta Or… Great Yarmouth? The Internet Had A Lot To Say When Asked Where They’d Never Visit Again

Face it – everyone has that one holiday that is best stuck in the past, with some far-flung location marred alongside bad memories of you in flip-flops somewhere stuck thinking: “why did I even come here?”

But one discussion online exploring this exact topic led to one interesting battleground.

“Malta and Great Yarmouth,” one person confidently said when asked to name a place that they would never visit again.

However, some people were left confused at the strange selection… Malta, “a jewel in the Mediterranean”, and Yarmouth, a seaside town in the county of Norfolk.

“That’s got to be the most controversial post I’ve read on here! Malta, a jewel in the Mediterranean, steeped in history, culture and glorious all year round weather… binned off in favour of Great Yarmouth of all places!!” said one person in defence of Malta.

“I just mean that Great Yarmouth has its place especially as lots of families can’t get to all the other places mentioned. It’s a perfectly good U.K. seaside resort though. Cheap and cheerful,” the person responded.

“Personally I’ve never been enamoured by Malta. I got some lovely photos there but I prefer other places – Monaco, Capri, Sarasota and Disney World, the west coast of Croatia, Venice, Florence.”

“Why Malta?” asked someone else. “Curious as to what you didn’t like. We’re just back from our second visit, we were meant to go to Spain but my kids wanted to go back to Malta. They love it. First visit we travelled all around Malta and Gozo, this visit we did a cruise around Malta and swam in the blue lagoon. Just gorgeous.”

The range of answers, which can be found in this thread, reveal what different tourists think about the island.

With huge numbers of tourists coming to the island this year, safeguarding the key attractions on the island may be more important than ever… otherwise, the island may need to start looking to Great Yarmouth for some new ideas.
