The Malta Police Association has condemned ONE News for attempting to politicise a scuffle that broke out between a policeman and a protestor last night.
In a video that has been widely circulated online, a man can be seen lunging at a policeman following an incident that had broken out between that policeman and a group of protestors. The MPA said that the man will be prosecuted over the incident and condemned acts of violence towards police officers, prompting ONE to report that the Association has condemned “attacks from Simon Busuttil’s people”.
This report prompted the MPA to issue another statement.
“The Malta Police Association would like to clarify that while we condemn all attacks towards police officers, we also condemn ONE News’ article which claims that we have identified the person concerned as someone with a particular political persuasion and that the person acted in this way because they support certain people in politics,” it said. “The Association has no details of this person’s identity and we wholly deplore these types of articles, which twist around statements for political reasons.”
