Malta Raises €1,200,259 During Dar Bjorn Telethon For Respite Home
The nation has once again shown its generosity, with over a million euros raised during Dar Bjorn’s national telethon yesterday.
ALS Malta, which was founded by Bjorn Formosa, managed to collect a brilliant total of €1,200,259 during the fundraiser for Dar Bjorn Respite.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Keep giving us the energy that we all need to continue,” Dar Bjorn said in a statement.
Being constructed as an extension of Dar Bjorn Żebbuġ, Respite is all about providing patients with care and help for a defined number of days.
Bjorn made it out of the hospital just in time for yesterday’s marathon, after he was admitted due to complications from prostate stones.
Bjorn was diagnosed with ALS, a neurodegenerative neuromuscular disease that results in the progressive loss of motor neurons that control voluntary muscles, in 2015 when he was 28 years old.
Since then, he has won the nation’s hearts with his fundraising efforts for a respite home for neurological patients and his can-do attitude, even as his condition deteriorated.
Well done ALS Malta!
