Malta Reacts To Both PL And PN Holding Political Events This Sunday

Both the Labour Party and Nationalist Party have organised political events this Sunday following a week of arrests and resignations – and people have called them out for it.

What should be considered as a crisis for the Maltese people is being twisted into a political shootout between both parties…

… and the Maltese people aren’t happy.

People took to social media to express their discontent that both parties are more concerned about rallying troops instead of addressing corruption claims as a whole, with some alluding to the fact that Sunday’s rallies might even result in violence.

People wondered about the timing of the rallies in light of recent revelations.

“This is a very dangerous situation – and all for the wrong reasons. Neither PL nor PN have any reason to gather en-masse, they are both corrupt until they perform an internal clean-up. It’s just a battle of egos which will seriously go wrong, I fear…we should all boycott these childish meetings and show them we don’t care about blue or red! We care about our country!”

And others linked it to the country’s tendency to be blinded by tribal politics.

“Just when you think that Malta might just move away from the blinding blue and red… Very irresponsible for the PN leader to call a mass meeting in the name of his party.”

“This is a time for Malta to unify against a common issue… Not an opportunity to further divide the island.”

Matthew Caruana Galizia also took to Facebook, urging people to boycott the rallies and to join the protests instead.

‘Joseph Muscat wants us to go to war against each other. Our war is against corruption, against his office, the Office of the Prime Murderer.’

Even Ironman athlete Fabio Spiteri had something to say about it.

Tensions will surely run high as both parties organise their respective rallies this coming Sunday. Political rivalry is not a solution to a national crisis where unity is the only solution to overthrow the powers that be.
