Malta Should Make Pool Safety Barriers Mandatory, Former PN Candidate Proposes

Following the tragic death of six-year-old Zaylen, former PN MEP candidate Lee Bugeja Bartolo has urged the government to ramp up its pool safety laws.
Bugeja Bartolo noted that Australia has long required all pools deeper than 30cm to be enclosed by certified safety barriers to prevent access by young children.
“Australia introduced these laws following a series of tragedies similar to what happened in Malta when young Zaylen lost his life,” Bugeja Bartolo noted.
“This tragedy that shocked many people, myself included.”
“35 years after these laws were first introduced in Australia, I am urging the Maltese government to follow suit. The health and safety of our children should come first and foremost.”
Zaylen tragically lost his life last weekend after drowning in a pool in Naxxar, having wandered away from his relatives.
