The Malta Sports Journalists Association (GħĠS) disassociated itself from a warning by its president, Antvin Monseigneur, that the PN’s environment bill would have threatened the livelihood of sports journalists.

“The GħĠS would like to clarify that it is an independent and non-partisan organisation,” a statement by the association read.

“While it respects the right of everyone, including its members and officials, to express their personal opinions, such opinions don’t necessary reflect the association’s official position.”

“The Association remains strictly neutral when it comes to political issues and is committed to promoting and safeguarding the integrity, professionalism and interests of Maltese sports journalism.”

At a PL rally last weekend, Monseigneur warned that the PN’s defeated bill would have led to the destruction of sports, hobbies and traditions.

He claimed that it would have consequently threatened their livelihoods of sports journalists, as they would have had nothing left to report on other than legal disputes.

Monseigneur described the bill as a “ġennata pura” (pure madness).
