‘Malta Stand Up’: Jon Mallia Issues Rallying Cry Ahead Of Protest On Anniversary Of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s Assassination

Jon Mallia has issued a rallying cry ahead of this evening’s protest and vigil marking five years since journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination.
“In five years of grief and hardship, we lived a second of truth, of hope,” he wrote on a social media post, days after hitmen George and Alfred Degiorgio pleaded guilty to their role in the murder.
A protest followed by a vigil will be held today at 6.30pm in Valletta. Mallia, who will be attending, urged others to do the same, insisting it was vital to ensure that this horrific part of Malta’s history is not forgotten.
“Mothers and fathers go to the protest tonight and bring your children with you,” Mallia added, urging the importance of ensuring that this moment in history is preserved with future generations.
However, he said that it was vital to send a message to the current government, warning that the same issues that plagued previous administrations remained.
“Because during the same week that the killers spent that dirty check to the last penny, the jackals of the party widened their target on journalists to include teachers,” Mallia warned.
“And instead of the state silencing the propagandists, everything remains the same.”
“So they did not learn anything. So it’s either us or someone.”
Will you attend tonight’s protest?
