Malta To Convene Urgent UN Security Council Meeting After Iran Attacks Israel

As the current President of the UN Security Council, Malta will this afternoon convene an urgent meeting to discuss Iran’s drone attack against Israel and how further escalation can be prevented.
“Expressing profound concern over the reported drone strikes emanating from Iran and targeting Israel,” Foreign Minister Ian Borg said.
“The escalating situation has reached unprecedented levels of instability. War invariably propels humanity into a downward spiral, with innocent lives bearing the brunt of its devastating toll. Encouraging all parties to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic solutions.”

“As UNSC President during April, Malta will this afternoon be convening an urgent meeting of the Council to discuss how we can prevent further escalation and a war which would harm millions of people in the region.”
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola also condemned the attack and warned it risks igniting further chaos across the Middle East.
“The EU condemns the attack in the strongest possible terms & will keep working to de-escalate & stop the situation spiralling into more bloodshed,” she said.
Iran launched over 300 drones and missiles at Israel last night in retaliation to the 1st April strike on an Iranian diplomatic building in Damascus which killed Iranian Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, among other Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders.
The IDF confirmed it intercepted 99% of these drones and missiles. IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee said not a single one of Iran’s 170 drones and 30 cruise missiles penetrated Israel. A few of the 120 ballistic missiles fired fell at an air force base in Nafatim, causing minor infrastructural damage.
