Malta-based companies will start exporting medical cannabis from the start of next year, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat confirmed today.

“We have already managed to attract a lot of investment [in the medical cannabis sector], which will create 700 new high-quality jobs with above-average salaries,” Muscat said in an interview on ONE this morning. “The first of these companies  will start exporting medical cannabis from Malta in the first quarter of next year.”

Several pharmaceutical and cannabis companies, such as MGC Pharma, Supreme, Aurora and Aphria, have already been approved to operate in Malta. And Muscat, who recently addressed a Cannabis Europa conference in London, said that other companies have expressed interest in moving to Malta and that announcements will be made in this regard in the coming weeks.
