Malta’s Air Quality Marked ‘Unhealthy’, As Warnings Issued To Limit Outdoor Activity
Malta’s current air quality has been ranked “unhealthy” with a warning to limit outdoor activity as much as possible issued.
AccuWeather, powered by international air quality trackers PlumeLabs, issued a warning of Malta’s unhealthy quality levels that can cause serious health issues, particularly on the lungs and heart.
Health effects can be immediately felt by sensitive groups. Healthy individuals may also experience difficulty breathing and throat irritation with prolonged exposure.
The current PM2.5 reading is at 30 µg/m³. PM 2.5 stands for Fine Particle Matter. These are inhalable pollutant particles with a diameter of less that 2.5 micrometres that can enter the lungs and bloodstream, resulting in serious health issues.
Exposure can lead to coughing, difficulty breathing, aggravated asthma and the development of chronic respiratory disease.
It is not yet known if the air quality has a direct link to the massive Marsa fire.
